I am surprised to find myself as a nominee at the Rave Awards, held by the Rave Reviews Book Club. This is the club where authors share the burden of promotion by helping each other. I’m going to include a voting link, and while you’re there take a minute to surf around. They have helped me tremendously, and they can help you too. So the point is that I’m shamelessly asking for your votes.
First up, and possibly my best opportunity is this very blog. Entertaining Stories was nominated as Best Blog Site. I put most of my effort into this site, and it looks like the hard work is starting to get noticed. I’m up against some tough competition, including a couple of regulars here.
Secondly, and possibly the biggest surprise to me, The Playground was nominated as Book of the Year. Someone out there enjoyed it. What the…

Seasons of Skorn, shadows of the seas: in search of time
I think this is my favourite out of my attempts to honour Tolkien by taking literally this statement from from Letters #133; ‘I had a mind to make a body of more or less connected legend … which I could dedicate simply to: to England; to my country. … I would draw some of the great tales in fullness, and leave many only placed in the scheme, and sketched. … leave scope for other minds and hands, wielding paint and music and drama.” ‘ I hope he would not mind some prose as well.

“Come away, Dad, do. There’s nothing more we can do here.” Robin Gamgee tugged anxiously at his father’s arm, but Sam remained still, silent, gazing down at the mound of fresh-heaped earth at his feet.

My name is Edgar Rice Burro. I’m the publicist for Prairie Moon Press. I got the job because I have the loudest voice, and I’m not afraid to use it. Also, I’m not afraid to tell humans what to do. I’m helpful that way.
***
I am the human and I used to think I had a thin veneer of control on this farm. I might have been exaggerating.
***
My human finally took my advice and put my handsome face on a book cover. She’s slow on the uptake, but she gives a good ear rub, so I’m patient with her. This book will sell like cold carrots on a hot day.

I do the hard jobs for Prairie Moon Press. I wrote the book, for instance. I paid for everything. He just came in at the end and brayed about it. Like it was all his idea. Okay…

I don’t know why, but for some reason when writing a trilogy I find the second book the hardest.
Book One is simple. Introduce the characters, establish their working relationships with one another, and tease the big, BIG conflict which will happen two books from now.
