Top Ten Things Not to Do If You Are a Writer

Fiction Favorites

The inspiration for this list is thinking back on all the mistakes I made while trying to become a writer. Not that I made all of them, but maybe most. I hope you enjoy.

Top Ten Things Not to Do If You Are a Writer

10 If you are a writer, do not kill a child or a pet in your story. If you do, at best the fallout will blow over in two years or so. At worst, you will be cavorting with some strange characters in your new witness protection plan. (Don’t get cute with a pen name either. They will find you)

9  If you are a writer, do not show friends and family portions of your work in process. If you do, at best you’ll pick up some unwanted advice on plot direction. At worst, your family will now wonder how in the world you ever…

Entertaining Stories

I got to the writing cabin early. Lisa* was her usual chipper self again. She’d monitored my gyrocopter and had coffee ready before I arrived.

She had on a huge sweater over some Cheshire Cat tights and her hair was up in a bun. “Did you get a lot done Friday?”

“Yeah, it was a pretty good writing day. It felt good to get back to it. How’s Lorelei*”

“She feels better about herself too. She may have pushed it too far though. Sometimes people forget that I don’t get tired. As long as my battery is charged, I can keep going.”

I left her to obsessively count out individual pellets of food for her pet rabbit Bunny, and went to my office.

I added some things to The Yak Guy Project, but it led me to another transition scene. This was a short one, and I powered through it…

A New Chapter…

Hello, bloggers!

It’s been a week since I took a step towards my dream and I couldn’t be happier.

Very few people are aware of this, but I am no longer tied down to a full-time job. That’s right, friends, I QUIT MY JOB!!! And it was such a wonderful feeling, such a powerful feeling! Relief… Freedom… Happiness…

Now, you may think I’m crazy, but I assure you, I am not. For once in my life, I am thinking about myself, my dreams, my passions. It’s time to focus on what I want my career to be, which is writing. The whole package… being an author, a freelancer, a researcher and a reader & reviewer.

My first step in this new chapter was to create a new site, one geared towards my writing and freelancing. Well, that site is now up and running at https://Freelance13Writer.WordPress.com/, and I’m gradually…

Just what do I write?

Welcome to the World of Suzanne Burke.

Amazon Cover ABR

In Book 1 of the ‘Unintended Consequences’ series Acts BeyondRedemption takes you on a twisted, deadly ,journey.

Mike Matheson is head of a Special Task Force set up by the F.B.I to track down and apprehend the serial killers responsible for 18 brutal murders.

He and his team are exhausted, frustrated, and ready to burn out after almost five years and no leads.
Nothing in their experience has prepared them for this. Nothing in their imaginations could conceive of the truth hidden in plain sight.
Someone is deflecting their weary eyes away from a truth too incomprehensible to be permitted to exist.
Revealing it and those that set it in motion would bring the most powerful country on earth to its knees. The corridors of power shake.

Who will be buried in the shattered remains of a country where freedom and honor are treasured above all things?

Just how…

Book Review: Bound By The Summer Prince (Spellbound Hearts Book 2) by Mistral Dawn.

Welcome to the World of Suzanne Burke.

I am delighted to Review another Author whose work is new to me.

Say Hi to author Mistral Dawn, as I review her book, ”Bound By The Summer Prince (Spellbound Hearts Book 2.)

The Summer Court is in an uproar. The king has just been executed for unpardonable crimes, and the queen is prostrate with grief over his loss. This leaves the Summer kingdom bereft of true leadership; a problem which is compounded by the fact that the laws of Fairie require balance to be maintained by having a male and a female ruler for both Season Courts at all times. Uaine, the Summer prince, is the only one who can put things right, but he is without a mate. Knowing that he must take a bride quickly, for the sake of his people, even though he is struggling with his own feelings of pain and anger over his father’s…
