Genre prompts

Lozzi's avatarCreative Writing and My Author Journey

Prompts have always inspired me and helped me with my short stories, there are so many online and also books with them in. Have you ever thought of looking for specific genre prompts though? Here are some examples below that I have found on the internet and think sound very helpful.
Dystopian -The end of the world happened with the mass destruction of the power plants and a virus that runs rampant throughout the entire population.
Horror – Your driving on a country road. It is late at night. You are far from home. You realize, as you check your mirrors, there is a man you do not know, hiding on the floor of your back seat.
Romance – Write a story about a romance that develops while both the main characters are dealing with an addition.

A Tale of Four Seasons

The ancient Celtic year was built around the four seasons. Each season was marked with two holidays (8 in total). The four main holidays fall in the middle of our current seasons, and the year begins on Samhain.
Samhain (pronounced SAHwen): Oct. 31st. The start of 6 months of darkness and death, Samhain marks the beginning of winter. Herds are brought out of the pastures; some are led into stables for protection, and others slaughtered for the family’s survival (also because feed is scarce). This holiday is the time when the veil between life and death is thinnest. People honor their deceased ancestors through large gatherings with bonfires, dancing, feasting and the building of altars. Halloween’s origins came from Samhain, which remains the most popular Gaelic holiday.
Imbolc (Im-mbolg): Feb. 2nd. The festival marks the coming of spring…

A Whole New World!

Linda Mims's avatarThe Long and Short Stories of Life

dystopian So… I almost didn’t agree to be a part of Rave Reviews Book Club’s  “Back to School Book & Blog Block Party”, but after more than a year of membership, I have created friendships, made connections, and received unmerited support from RRBC’s many members. Being in the room with such talent has inspired me to write again. Finally, tweeting and reviewing other talented writers is not enough! I want my chance to be vetted and reviewed before the membership. The chance to be read, lauded, and promoted is too good to resist.

During the B2S Book & Blog Block Party, I’ll be featuring a book that’s been with me for almost a year now. I’ve outlined, studied the characters, and internalized their habits and backgrounds. I hadn’t fully fleshed out the characters in terms of their appearances and features until a couple of months ago, and I would’ve still been…

I, Hero: The Beginning” falls in the realm of your standard fantasy / mythology / superhero story. It’s an “origins” story, and like any origin tale, it seems slow to tell, at least from the start. In order to have a good base to work future adventures from, you have to know how the hero got their start. That was the premise for “I, Hero: The Beginning”.

The book has been set up as a part of a planned series of stories. I have four more “planned”, with book two titled “I Hero: Nathan Returns” which is already in the works and expected ready for delivery for the Kindle for the middle of September. After that, I have tentatively plannedthree more books in the series as follows:

I Hero: Untitled Book 3 (Expected first half 2016)
I Hero: Untitled Boo
