It’s time for another book review and this time it’s the turn of:

I Hero: The Beginning by Jason Zandri

Book Blurb: An everyday man, living less than ordinary life in New York City, simply makes his way about his work life and one at home. A kind heart and an empathetic soul, who tended to think of others before he thought of himself.

heroWith his childhood totally left behind and gone with the final resting of his father, Nathan has come to terms with his past as he forges his life in the present, unaware of what lies ahead.

An unlikely friendship, a random act of violence, a budding romance, all part of a life changed.

“When it’s your time, there’s nothing you can do to change that outcome. The only thing you can do is meet it head on. You have to hope that the life you…

When, What & Why: A Strategic Approach to Self-Publishing

Unknown's avatarArcher's Aim

clicking mouseIn June 2014, I clicked a button on a website and felt and emptiness spread within me. I called my wife and told her I was asking myself, “What have you done?” What I had done was self-publish my first e-book. It was a decision to become a professional writer and one fraught with anxiety but I had done it for several reasons.

Self-publishing a book should be done with care and not with sudden leaps of optimistic excitement. So the question is, when, what and why to publish? I can’t tell anyone the precise answers to this bundle of questions since everyone’s situation is unique. However, I can share my reasons and maybe it will help someone else consider their own strategy.

Black Bag Cover 7Why did I self-publish what I did and when? First of all, I didn’t publish The Black Bag with high sales expectations. But there were several reasons…

Block Party Badge(1)

TODAY I’m giving away 1 (one) signed PAPERBACK copy of Luck of the Irish (US only – for winners living outside the US, the paperback copy will not be signed).

I’ll take this opportunity to introduce you to an amazing project called One Million Project – check the page here. I’ve been working on that for a little over a year now and it’s going to be launched next November.

Talented and versatile author Jason Greenfield (I profiled him in my GIVEBACK WEDNESDAY post last July – here) put together a collective work for The One Million Project with 24 short-stories written by himself and other authors and illustrated by different artists. He’s been working hard on that for a long time. I, on the other hand, have been lending a hand for the last fifteen months but I can tell you it’s been a beautiful and rewarding experience because the book will…

Flameshift

200

Brighid watch over us

May your flame light our way

Through the night

Through the storms

Through our tears

May your waters sooth and heal

Heal our hearts,

Heal our bodies,

Heal our minds.

May your forge make us strong

Strong enough to fight what needs to be fought

Strong enough to accept what can’t be

Strong enough to stand under the burdens we accept

Brighid, we burn your flame

We drink from your well

We are strong when we are weak because we have your blessing

We drink from your well to be healed

We walk in the mist following your footsteps.

We carry your flame with us and give to all who need it.

Brighid, we are your flames in the world.

Today I am happy to host Larry Hyatt, author of  How to Reach for the American Dream… (And Not Get it!) and fellow RRBC member, as a guest on my blog. Larry is here to share his ideas on creating comedy.

My writing is usually for the spoken word but I use my blog for observations, one liners, fake news, and outright lies. Satire we’ll call it. Here are some things I do. I didn’t think these up. If you’re looking to add some funny of your own, here are 5 comedy exercises you can do.

  1. Faux-obituaries
This is a fake death notice, eulogy, honorary speech at a function, etc. They can be famous people in their own world or famous in yours. They can be just your average person. You have complete control over someone’s life and death and they’re not there to correct you.
  2. Take the news stories…
